If you’re counting on a timely tax refund to help pay off any holiday debt, you may have to formulate a Plan B. To wit, The Los Angeles Times reports that even if the government shutdown ends soon, tax rebates are likely to be delayed this year due to the furloughing of processors. Couple that with what Tony Reardon, national president of the National Treasury Employees Union, calls “the biggest tax reform change in 30 years” and “that is all a big brew that spells potential trouble.” Reports that the Trump Administration plans to call more IRS workers back to process tax refunds–without pay–will likely do little to alleviate this perilous pileup.
